Wormy Chestnut flooring is very rich in aged character and has a very unique history. In the early 1900’s the American Chestnut tree was virtually wiped out by a blight which makes it one of the most desired floors.
While availability is limited, we to continue to find sources to provide us this gorgeous lumber. The processing of the lumber to flooring is quite something, bring this aged, weathered lumber back to life.
As the lumber comes into our yard it really isn’t much to look at but you can just envision the flooring taking center stage in your home. It is defected, kiln dried and then the edges are sawn to size the width of each board. From there it is ready to be milled into some of the most gorgeous flooring you will ever see.
Beauty and Character
Insects bored their way through the dead chestnut trees and the result is frequent “worm holes” throughout. This is the “main” part of the character you will see in the flooring and part of what makes it special. You will also have occasional saw marks, nail holes and other signs of it’s previous use.
Reclaimed Chestnut makes for a very unique floor and one of our personal favorites.
With similar characteristics to our Antique Oak flooring, you will get occasional saw marks, nail and solid knots.
